What comes to mind when you hear the phrase “agent of change”?
Many people think of pastors, missionaries, political leaders, or influential public figures. Yet according to Jesus, every believer is called to be an agent of change.
Not someday.
Not when life becomes easier.
Not after receiving a special title.
Right where you are.
In your home. In your workplace. In your business. In your school. In your community.
God never intended for His people to simply survive difficult circumstances. He designed us to influence them.
The Problem with Passive Christianity
Many believers spend their lives waiting.
Waiting for God to fix the situation. Waiting for someone else to pray. Waiting for circumstances to improve. Waiting for opportunities to appear.
Meanwhile, fear, discouragement, sickness, confusion, and hopelessness continue to shape the environment around them.
But Jesus never called His followers to be passive observers.
He called them to be participants in His kingdom.
When Jesus declared in Matthew 16:18, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it,” He wasn’t talking about a building. He was talking about people—ordinary believers empowered by an extraordinary God.
You are part of that church.
You are part of God’s answer to the needs around you.
The World Changes When Believers Show Up
Think about your daily life.
Perhaps your workplace is filled with negativity.
Maybe your family is experiencing conflict.
Perhaps your community is struggling with fear, violence, hopelessness, or uncertainty.
The natural response is to complain about the darkness.
The kingdom response is to bring light.
Agents of change don’t merely identify problems; they carry solutions.
Where others spread fear, they spread faith.
Where others spread division, they bring peace.
Where others see impossibilities, they see opportunities for God to move.
The presence of a believer should shift the atmosphere because the Spirit of God lives within them.
The Authority Jesus Has Already Given You
One of the most powerful truths Pastor Femi emphasized at one of previous Bible Study series is that believers have been given the keys of the kingdom.
Jesus said:
“Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 18:18
This means believers are not powerless victims of circumstances.
We have authority through the name of Jesus.
Kingdom authority is not about controlling people. It is about enforcing what Christ has already accomplished through His death and resurrection.
When fear attacks your mind, you can declare God’s peace.
When discouragement comes, you can stand on God’s promises.
When sickness, lack, confusion, or oppression attempt to gain ground, you can pray with confidence knowing that Jesus has already secured victory.
God is not waiting to decide whether He wants to help.
He is waiting for His people to exercise the authority He has already given them.
Stop Waiting for a Miracle and Start Moving in Faith
One of the greatest misconceptions believers have is that faith means doing nothing while waiting for God to act.
Faith is active.
Faith prays.
Faith speaks.
Faith serves.
Faith steps forward.
Faith expects God to move.
This doesn’t mean we perform miracles ourselves. Pastor Femi reminded us of an important truth:
Believers are not the performers.
God is the performer.
Our responsibility is to believe, obey, pray, and act on His Word.
God’s responsibility is the manifestation.
Your Assignment This Week
Don’t wait for a platform.
Don’t wait for a title.
Don’t wait for perfect circumstances.
Become an agent of change today.
Pray for someone.
Encourage someone.
Share your testimony.
Invite someone to church.
Gather with other believers.
Speak God’s Word over your situation.
Bring hope where there is discouragement.
Bring faith where there is fear.
Bring light where there is darkness.
The world does not need more spectators.
It needs believers who understand who they are, know the authority they carry, and are willing to use it for the glory of God.
You are one of those believers.
Now go and change your world.
