Words are powerful. They can encourage or discourage, build up or tear down, inspire faith or spread fear. But according to Scripture, words are far more than communication tools they are instruments of spiritual authority.

In a recent teaching at Evident Faith Ministries, Pastor Femi emphasized a transformative truth, the primary way believers exercise spiritual authority is through their words.
God Created Through Words
The Bible opens with a picture of God speaking creation into existence. “Let there be light.” And there was light.
Hebrews 11:3 tells us that the worlds were framed by the Word of God. Everything God created began with what He spoke. As people created in God’s image, our words carry significance. While our words are not equal to God’s own.

Death and Life Are in the Power of the Tongue
Proverbs 18:21 declares, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” This means that what we continually speak influences the direction of our lives. Negative confessions reinforce fear, doubt, and defeat. Faith-filled words align our hearts with God’s promises and position us to receive what He has spoken.
Too often believers unknowingly speak against the very things they are praying for. They pray for healing but speak sickness. They pray for provision but speak lack. They pray for peace but continually confess fear. Faith requires agreement with God’s Word
A powerful quote referenced during the teaching stated “Words are the gates through which faith and fear flow.”
Every day, believers make a choice about which gate they will open. Will it be the gate of faith or the gate of fear?
When we continually declare God’s promises, we strengthen our faith and create an atmosphere where hope and confidence can grow.

Change What You Say
Many people want their circumstances to change without changing their speech. However, spiritual authority is often released through spoken agreement with God’s Word. Instead of saying “I will never overcome this.”
Say:
“Through Christ, I am more than a conqueror.”
Instead of saying:
“Nothing good ever happens to me.”
Say:
“God is working all things together for my good.”
Instead of saying:
“I can’t make it.”
Say:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Final Thought
Your words matter. They reveal what you believe. They shape your perspective.
They release faith into your situation.
If you want to see change in your life, begin by changing what you say. Fill your mouth with God’s promises and watch your faith grow stronger.
Speak life.
Speak faith.
Speak God’s Word.
And allow your authority in Christ to be released through every word you declare.
